Google is honouring the legendary South African musician Hugh Masekela, making the Jazz artist the latest to feature on the search engines ever-changing homepage.

Celebrating the musicians birthday, Bra Hugh Masekela, who was born on the 4th of April 1939 and passed away early 2018, would have been 80 today. The legendary South African trumpeter, composer, singer and all-around creative genius, was described as the father of South of African Jazz and was celebrated for his compositions such as “Bring Him Back Home”, which challenged the apartheid regime which plagued South Africa.

A collaborator who loved the gift of music, and was constantly passing on the mantel to the next generation of South African and African musicians, Bra Hugh also enjoyed international success, even scoring a number-one US pop hit with his iteration of “Grazing in the Grass.”

Though he is no longer with us, we shall continue to share the legacy of Hugh Masekela and other legendary African musicians.
