Q: DJ Maphorisa, congratulations on shutting down RoundHouse, Camden for the Life is Eazi Culture Festival with Mr Eazi. What did you enjoy most about the show?

A: What did I enjoy most about the Mr Eazi show? First of all shout to Mr Eazi, he brought in everybody. You know, he made the show crazy, Spinna was there, Fuse was there, Eugy was there you know what i’m saying, so it was so crazy.

Q: You’ve helped shaped the current African sound that we hear on the radio. How do you feel about the influence of African sounds in mainstream music now?

A: So i’ve worked with Wizkid, I’ve worked with Davido you know what i’m saying, so it’s getting really mainstream. I’m working with one of the legends in South Africa, Black Coffee so it’s really crazy and dope.

Q: We asked Mr Eazi this question last time, but we want to know who is DJ Maphorisa’s favourite artist right now?

A: Yo, Nasty C, Davido, Wizkid. Tekno. Come on there’s too much, I won’t finish. Africa is doing great right now.

Q: Do you think we’ll see more Southern African Artists gain international exposure like we have seen with West African musicians and artists?

A: Definitely from South Africa. I’m seeing more artists doing more, collaborations and getting more exposure. So yeah, it’s happening. It’s really happening.

Q: As you have mentioned, you have worked with a number of big artists; Drake, Chris Brown and Major Lazor to name a few – What advice would you give to aspiring African artists or DJ’s on getting their first big break?

A: I’ve worked with a-lot of artists and DJ’s you know what i’m saying. And the key is for aspiring artists and DJ’s is work hard, dedication, respect. Humble yourself and be patient you know.

Q: With all the big names we have just mentioned, which has been your most favourite collaboration so far?

A: My favourite collaboration so far is Particula; Major Lazor & DJ Maphorisa featuring Nasty C, Jidenna, Ice Prince & Patoranking. & Soweto Baby with Wizkid & Buckz. So there’s two.

We want to give a massive shoutout to DJ Maphorisa for joining us.
