Grammy Nominated Sons Of Sonix Premiere Slow Whine

25th June 2021

It’s always a pleasure seeing producers become the faces of their own creativity. Especially when they are responsible for big records, genres, and culture. Sons of Sonix are no strangers to music that has gone ahead and become hits. Born in the UK to Nigerian parents they have been able to work with artists across the globe like Stormzy, Trey Songz, Chip, Skepta, and Justin Bieber. In 2019 Mo Samuels and Mikey Akin traveled to Nigeria for the first time and were in sessions and writing camps with African superstars like Teni, Tems, and Adekunle Gold. It was there where their new single Slow whine was born.

“We see ‘Slow whine’ as a metaphor to the love we have for our country Nigeria’, Says SOS. ‘Yes, lyrically it talks about a woman – but it’s actually about Nigeria. The country swept us off our feet from the moment we landed and we will never look back. We eat sleep and breath music but the core of what we do comes from our homeland.”

Even though the record is being released 2 years later due to business hurdles and of course covid, Slow Whine defiantly hasn’t lost its relevance. Just as the world is catching on to how great Africa is and how much of an influence Africa has always been a lot of Africans born in the diaspora are rediscovering who they really are. how Sons of Sonix have been able to transcribe their experience of the motherland through music and visuals is very special. What’s even more special about slow whine is that it is timeless. With the help of Alpha P, Mystro, and Danny Pan records like this remind me of a vibe that Africa has, regardless of the situation. Whether you are falling in love, working in the busy streets of Lagos, childhood memories, or in the club this song gives you a glimpse of the importance of Africans telling their own stories.

It’s always important to go home to your source – it’s powerful and spiritual. We hope you love this record as much as we do!”, Sons of Sonix.
