International Afro Dance Festival 2020

21st September 2020

The International Afro Dance Fest 2020 is an exciting online event celebrating contemporary African Dance through the youthful global leaders of the burgeoning Afrobeats dance scene. Hosted by The Africa Centre, in Southwark, London, this ambitious project will connect young, energetic, and unapologetically African dancers from three continents and provide a virtual platform for them to showcase their talent. Nigeria, Ghana, DR Congo, and Zambia are some of the countries represented – all the featured dancers have a combined social media following of more than 2 million! Whoop!

This is about more than just dance, even though dance in itself is important as an effective medium for social upliftment. With everything that is happening in the world right now, from the global health crisis to the uprising against police brutality and institutional racism in different parts of the world, this is a crucial moment to come together and enjoy captivating rhythmic motions inspired by sounds from the Motherland!

All the dancers involved in this project have inspirational stories and many are involved in community projects either where they live or in the countries whey they are originally from. Expect to see and hear from @yourfavafrican, @kingnature_, @cocainnaofficial, @jenybsg, @incredibleziggi and @stormiebandele.

This will be an interactive event with multiple dance presentations, a DJ set, interviews, and of course, an after-party! There will also be opportunities for Q&As and networking.

The presentations will be judged by both the audience and a panel of judges from professional dance and performing arts backgrounds. Spead the word! #afrodancefest2020

**This event is free but please consider making a donation towards The Africa centre Education Campaign. We need to raise funds to complete the construction of the third floor of our new headquarters which is going to be a Learning and Research Centre. Via this facility, we aim to connect London with Africa and the global diaspora through accessible material and resources that promote positive narratives about Africa, decolonise the curriculum, challenge stereotypes, and teach the truth about black and African history.
