President of Benin Honours Returned Artworks with Exhibition

Marking the return of items that were looked by the French back when Benin was a French colony, the President of Benin, Patrice Talon inaugurated an exhibition that will showcase the 26 royal treasures.

On display to public as of Sunday 20th, the items which were looted nearly 130 years ago by colonial forces from the Dahomey Kingdom which is located south of present day Benin. The return of the artworks comes after French lawmakers passed a bill that allows Paris to return artefacts looted during colonial times to Benin and Senegal.

The exhibition will be held on the grounds of the presidential palace in the country’s capital.
